AISI A-2 Multipurpose Air - Hardened Tool Steel

The cold work tool steel listed under the letter symbol "A" cover a wide range of carbon and alloy contents, but all have high hardening and exhibit a high degree of dimensional stability in heat treatment. Our A-2 multipurpose tool steel is a superior quality of steel reflecting a very fine grain structure. It is electric furnace air-hardening, 5% chrome tool steel. It maintains excellent wear and abrasion resistance properties. These qualities permit the steel to hold extremely sharp cutting edges particularly as compared to O-1. Our A-2 grade of tool steel maintains exceptional machinability characteristics when compared to other high carbon / high chromium steels, like D -2. It is one of our most popular grades of tool steel and is ideal for use particularly in thin applications.

Typical applications include:
-  Blanking dies
-  Knurls
-  Rolls
-  Brick and mold Liners
-  Mandrels
-  Sand Slingers
-  Coining dies
-  Master hobs
-  Shear knives
-  Cold forming tools
-  Molds
-  Slitter knives
-  Forming dies
-  Spindles
